Project in Mexico

Aulas Virtuales Itinerantes (Mobile Technology Classrooms)

We bring technology education directly to Indigenous and rural communities to help reduce the digital divide and expand educational and employment opportunities.

What Is the Project?

Aulas Virtuales Itinerantes is a program designed to bring technology training and digital tools to Indigenous and rural communities with limited access to computers, connectivity, and digital education.

Through equipped learning spaces that remain temporarily in each community, children, young people, teachers, and adults can progressively develop digital skills and computer knowledge that strengthen learning and expand opportunities for further development.

The model allows the same technology infrastructure to serve multiple communities over time, expanding the program’s reach without requiring a fully separate setup in every location.

The project is designed to begin operations in communities in the Sierra de Zongolica, Veracruz, with the goal of eventually bringing the model to additional communities.

Technology can and should be adapted to the needs of Indigenous communities. Without access to technology, educational gaps grow, reducing opportunities for development in an increasingly digital world.

Impact

During its first phase, the program aims to reach more than 500 students, 20 teachers, and 75 adults, bringing technology training opportunities directly to their communities.

As the model expands to additional communities, its impact can grow progressively without requiring the full replication of technological infrastructure in every location.

The Challenge

Progress

We are preparing to launch our first Aulas Virtuales Itinerantes (Mobile Technology Classrooms), which will bring technology and learning opportunities to three communities in Mixtla de Altamirano.

We Equipped the First Classroom

We received the equipment and materials needed to begin implementing the project in three communities in Mixtla de Altamirano.

We Received Donated Computers

With support from Fundación ADO, we received 30 computers that will help expand access to technology training for children, teachers, and adults.

We Introduced the Project to the Community

We held informational meetings in the first community where the project will begin. These meetings gave community members an opportunity to learn about the initiative, ask questions, and share their perspectives.

We Secured Funding

Internet Society Foundation and Fundación Kasuga provided funding to support the project, joining other donors and partners whose contributions are making it possible to launch Aulas Virtuales Itinerantes in 2026.
