Mujeres Semilla (Seed Women)

We support Indigenous and rural women in strengthening their personal and economic opportunities through employment training, socioemotional development, and financial education.

What Is the Project?

Mujeres Semilla is a comprehensive training program for women in Indigenous and rural communities. It is designed to strengthen skills, economic autonomy, and opportunities for personal and professional development.

Through training pathways tailored to the needs and opportunities of each community, the program combines socioemotional development and empowerment, employment training, and financial education. Participants receive support throughout the process, strengthening both their personal capabilities and the practical tools they need to generate their own income.

The program seeks to reduce barriers that have historically limited women’s access to educational and economic opportunities by bringing training directly to their communities and building support networks that encourage continued participation and long-term development.

Mujeres Semilla began in the Sierra de Zongolica, Veracruz, with the goal of gradually adapting and expanding the model to additional communities and municipalities.

Women’s economic empowerment is essential to advancing efforts to address the different forms of violence women face every day. When a woman grows, her whole community flourishes.

In its first phase, the program aims to reach 200 women.

The Challenge

Progress

First Cohort — 2025

Hair Cutting and Styling

In 2025, the first Mujeres Semilla cohort graduated. All 18 women who began the program completed their training, resulting in a 100% retention and completion rate.

After completing the training:

  • 70% of participants are generating income using the knowledge and skills they acquired through the program.
  • Three women launched their own businesses, using their training as a tool to generate independent income.

Second Cohort — 2026

Computer Skills for Employment

On September 1, 2026, we began activities for the program with 25 women enrolled. The program is designed to help participants develop digital skills and practical tools that strengthen their professional profiles and expand their access to employment opportunities.
